Straight from the Hridaya Hermitage in Maine, experience what these kirtan wallahs do every day for devotional practice in their ashram home. With a powerful combination of energetic drumming and singing, Shiva Lila changes the energy of every space they enter with their music, bringing bodies alive and joy to the faces of those who join to sing with them. Dancing has a tendency to spontaneously erupt, as well!
As part of the evening, they will perform a short ceremony in honor of the Hindu celebration of Maha Shivaratri.

Rick Cormier is the founder and host of "Different Drummers Drum Circle" of Yarmouth. With more than 500 members ranging in age from under 10 to over 90, Different Drummers is the largest and most popular community drum circle in Maine. Rick is also one of the founders and coordinators of the Eastern Mass. Rhythm Festival and author of the book, "Freestyle Community Drum Circles." In describing Rick's playing style, one newspaper said "...he represents the pure joy that music can invoke."

Bringing Mindfulness to Every Conversation: A Presentation on Nonviolent Communication (NVC)

Peggy Smith has studied Nonviolent Communication with Marshall Rosenberg (creator of NVC), and many other internationally recognized trainers. The Center For Nonviolent Communication (www.cnvc.org) has certified her as a trainer. Peggy is a co-founder of the Maine NVC Network and is the founder and principle trainer for Open Communication (www.opencommunication.org).
Peggy taught elementary and middle school in Maine for 32 years. She brings her extensive teaching skills, humor and presence to her work. Peggy has a keen interest in connecting people with their innate compassionate nature. She has a life long interest in spiritual traditions and the fostering of compassion. She has studied with Zen teacher and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh sine 1991. She is a member of his Order of Interbeing. She lives in Lincolnville, ME and greets the day watching the sunrise over Islesboro.

Come and experience the meditative, trance-formative and healing energies of Gongs, Singing Bowls, and other sacred sound instruments as Todd Glacy takes us on a sound journey beyond the mind's limitations where visionary experience, clearing of embeded emotions, and connection with deep relaxation and peace can manifest. Participants should bring plenty of water and mats/pillows/blankets to lie on.
Todd Glacy considers himself a lifelong disciple of sound. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and is active in promoting music for healing, community building and personal/ spiritual practice. In addition to his involvement in Kirtan and community drumming, he regularly gives Sacred Sound Gong performances throughout Southern Maine and never ceases to be amazed by the seemingly infinite sound potential of these incredible instruments.

Living Ayurveda
Daily and Seasonal Practices for Health and Contentment with Aiyana Athenian and Krishna Peter Perry

Join Krishna Peter Perry and Aiyana Athenian, both Certified Ayurvedic Consultants and yoga instructors, for an exploration of Ayurveda, the natural healing system of India (often called the sister science to yoga). The first part of this workshop with give a thorough introduction to the principles of Ayurveda including education about the 5 elements, 3 doshas, and appropriate dietary and lifestyle practices for certain times of day and year. Participants will then have the opportunity to observe demonstrations of Ayurvedic cleansing practices for the senses to encourage optimal physical/mental health. Participants are welcome to try these practices as well. The last part of the workshop will delve into specific dietary recommendations for each dosha, explanation of the 6 tastes of Ayurveda, and participants will be able to sample foods recommended for each dosha.
Level: No prior experience of Ayurveda or yoga necessary.
Cost: $30 if registered by February 23. $40 thereafter.
Registration: Please register by February 29 through ShivaShakti School of Yoga. Four student minimum necessary to hold the workshop.
